Charles Marchant, we are told, served this cathedral as organist and choirmaster for forty-one years. In fact he devoted his life to the service of God. The inscription gives us an idea of the depth of his faith using the words of Psalm 34. “O praise the Lord with me: and let us magnify his name together”.
