A Journey of Faith
in Saint Patrick's Cathedral

In the north wall of the north transept high above the monuments, we can see the splendid window dedicated to the first Earl of Iveagh, which replaced an earlier Guinness window depicting the Lord’s ascension. This new window, made in 1936 by Sir Frank Brangwyn, depicts Mother Church ministering to the needs of humanity. This is a very impressive window that shows God’s provision for all humanity, but what faith issue can we draw from it? Jesus said, “the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost”. Here we see just who Jesus was talking about. Within this window we see people from every walk of life. We see people of all ages, ranging from a babe in arms through to the very old. We can see those who are healthy, and those who are sick and dying. We can see those who are rich, and those who are poor and hungry. We can see people with white skin, and people with dark skin. For Jesus came to save us all from judgement. There is one thing though that we have to do. We have to move from being like those who look on in the background, those who are grey and indistinct, to being like those who are in the foreground, those who have a clearer picture. Only then can we hope to receive all that God has for us.
