The good Samaritan takes the traveller to the Inn

The top section shows the Good Samaritan taking the injured man to the inn, where he is met by the inn keeper. “Look after him,” he said, “and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.”

But why has this window been dedicated to Edward Peele, a past member of the choir here at Saint Patrick’s?

At the very top of the window we can see Jesus as he tells the story. An expert in the Law asked Jesus “Who is my neighbour?” Jesus replied to his question, and showed him that in this story the Good Samaritan was in fact the traveller’s neighbour, for he had come to his aid, and helped him. He then gave him this command: “Go thou and do in like manner” (Luke Chapter 10, verse 37).

Edward Peele followed Jesus’ command. He went about helping those who were in need. He went about helping his neighbours. In fact the inscription below the window tells us that he lost his life because he cared for his neighbours. He died from a fever contracted when visiting the sick poor.
